An essential part of the tool making process, grinding takes the raw casting or machined billet from rough and unclean, to a finished state.
Pneumatic sanders help smooth large surfaces, while hand tools and manual work are required for detailed areas. Years of experience is especially important on modifications or repairs where it takes a keen eye and feel to blend areas together.
Utilizing different grit sizes, we can provide each tool to a specific surface finish. Or apply different textures to different areas. We also have the ability to shot blast and shot peen with various media sizes to match your desired smoothness. Sometimes this process is referred to as benching or polishing.
Most thermoform tools are finished to a DA120 or light sandblast finish, but we can accommodate almost any specification required. Laser or acid etching is all outsourced to preferred vendors, as is mirror finishing or specialized coatings.
